This story is in my client Jomo’s words. I think you’ll find that he describes their proposal perfectly.

“At an early stage in our relationship, I remember her saying one of her favorite things would be to walk into a candle lit room with rose petals spread all over. I wanted to create that atmosphere and being that it was going to be a proposal, I wanted it to have that special touch to it. I felt like if I did it at our home or some nice hotel it would be nice but I also wanted it to be captured.”

I did some online research and stumbled onto so many other ideas and photographers and their work but once I stumbled onto your work, I was amazed by your work and immediately knew what I wanted. If I remember correctly, when we discussed the idea, the words we used were, “nice but simple.” Once the arrangements were made, I told my fiancée that I made plans for us so she made sure that she was available.⠀

Fast forward to the actual day – she kept asking where we were going so I told her it a function and it’s something she always wanted to go to, so dress nicely.

We took an Uber to Dumbo and as soon as I saw you Ash, I texted you and started following your lead. I could see that she was a bit confused because we were walking through a dark path but she didn’t suspect a thing! As we approached the destination, she saw all the rose petals and candles but she still didn’t know it was for her.

We came to a stop and I had my speech ready for her. Once I got on my knee to propose, she couldn’t hold her emotions back. There were many happy tears!⠀

She absolutely loved her proposal and I was absolutely satisfied with your work, Ash. There were city lights, candle lights, rose petals and cameras there to capture the moment. My initial proposal idea was going to be indoors but you made it possible outdoors and we loved it?.”

It was such an honor to help Jomo make his dream marriage proposal a reality. I would love to help you! Feel free to get in touch!

St. Patricks Cathedral proposal

I love Jana and Bernard’s story. It reads like a romantic comedy and culminates in the most perfect proposal inside St. Patricks Cathedral, one of the most beautiful churches in the world. Planning a great proposal is all about paying attention to details and remembering little hints your partner gives you about what they would like as well as overt ones. Jana told Bernard in passing that she loved St. Patricks and he didn’t forget!

In Jana’s words

“We met five years ago, I was coming out of yoga, and he was checking into a hotel for work where the studio was. I’m not sure what it was, but that spark was there, he made me laugh, and he was quite dashing. I remember telling him “we would never work” as he lived in Houston and me in Dallas. His comment to that “it’s just a bag of peanuts away,” i.e., Southwest Airlines. He would also say “I was a hard nut to crack.” Working his magic he slowly crept into my heart. On one of the many phone conversations throughout our courtship, I mentioned how I loved New York and had visited most of the cathedrals; specifically, St. Patricks. The one thing about my Ash is he listens. We made plans to be in New York for the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center. He said, “let’s stop at St. Patricks and light a candle.” Upon entering the church, he stopped me, and on one knee he proposed. Later, I asked “why St. Patricks” and he said “I know what this church means to you and nobody gets engaged in a church, always married. Being the man that he is, he changed the rules.

The photographs speak for themselves, we’ve had so many compliments, we used the photos that year for our Christmas photo, our wedding announcement and have framed many of them. Christmas in New York is beautiful, getting engaged there was over the top. Ash Fox’s timing is impeccable, her editing stunning, and such a joy to work with, can we come back?”

Nick proposed to his longtime girlfriend in one of my favorite hidden pocket parks in the city, the 91st street garden (aka the garden park from “You’ve Got Mail” ) The 91st garden is a great choice if you are looking for a park to propose in that’s not Central Park and away from the crowds. It’s a gorgeous alternate option for an engagement if you don’t have a key to the exclusive Gramercy Park or if you and your girlfriend LOVE the movie “You’ve Got Mail”. It’s such a beautiful place to create a movie moment for your loved one. Nick proposed to his stunning girlfriend on a warm fall day just as the colors of the leaves were beginning to change.  I loved photographing his fiancé’s excitement as she leaped off her feet into Nick’s arms – Ash Fox

Peter came up with the perfect way to surprise his girlfriend Tina, on a (not so ordinary) walk to a work event earning in the morning. Sometimes you gotta catch a gal off guard by surprising them on a regular day! Tina was shocked. Peter and Tina’s proposal took place on a chilly winter day right at sunrise. What a way to start the day, right?! The light was gorgeous with the sun rising just moments before Peter dropped to his knee. He created a beautiful card for Tina  which made the moment extra special No need for coffee for these two, nothing wakes you up like the endorphin rush of love! :) I’m so happy for Tina and Pete! Congrats!

Guys and gals ask me all the time where they can propose with an amazing view of NYC, but without the crowds of tourists. There are so many great options I recommend depending on the couple, their personal style and interests, but one great idea for  an intimate proposal is to do it atop a gorgeous,  private New York City rooftop. The rooftop can be an event space, the rooftop of an office building, the balcony of a hotel suite, or even the private rooftop of a NYC resident. A rooftop is a fantastic place for a proposal because of the incredible scenic background.

I loved photographing this gorgeous proposal for Adrian and his stunning fiancé! Adrian booked the rooftop, decorated it with sentimental photographs that chronicled his relationship with his fiancé and had a violinist there playing their favorite song. He proposed with a breathtaking view of the Empire State Building in the background. This view is totally unique and special for them because it’s a private space, so the pictures they have are even more personalized.

A rooftop proposal is a great way to avoid crowds, and have a very private and unique experience. You can even set up a table in chairs and order delivery from your favorite restaurant to top off the night. :)

gapstow bridge proposal Peter’s proposal was a double surprise. First he surprised her with a ring…   central park river proposal     couple hugging after proposal surprised bride after proposal celebrating after proposal   … and then with all of Catherine’s BEST friends!!! A double surprise proposal can be tough to pull off because the more elements you add to a proposal the more you have to be aware of having everything perfectly timed. I love photographing proposals with a double surprise, because just when you think she’s as excited as she could possibly be, her reaction is magnified ten fold when she sees how her fiancé arranged for her friends to be there too. I just love Catherine’s reaction in all the photos. Also, this proposal took place in early fall, just when the leaves were starting to change color. We’re not quite there yet, but Central Park in the cal is absolutely beautiful. I love how the ivy on the Gapstow Bridge turns red. Every season has it’s own unique character and is equally romantic. – Ash Fox, Suprise Proposal Photographer family after proposal   bride and groom kissing by river   engagement ring with flowers DSC_6706 central park proposal photographycentral park surprise proposal

Ravi chose the perfect spot for his proposal, a place that held sentimental value for him and his gorgeous fiance-to-be. This was not just any hotel rooftop, it overlooked the neighborhood where he and his gal had lived and shared many memories, like running together through the east village. Ravi proposed during golden hour, those sacred minutes of golden light, when the sun is low in the sky and gives everything the most lovely glow. This is really the ideal time to choose when planning your proposal if you’d like to have the most spectacular colors and flattering light in your photos. During the summer in NYC if you’re proposing I suggest around 7pm EST as the perfect time if you’re looking for golden halos and sunsets to set the mood :)

I love the SIXTY LES Hotel, located on the lower east side in Manhattan (just in case you weren’t sure what “LES” stood for…here in NYC we love acronyms). About three years, ago my friend hosted a party every Friday night on the rooftop at 60 LES hotel and my friends and I would dance to a mix of Elvis, The Clash, and Blondie. The hotel is elegant, but with a downtown edge. For this cool, young couple, the  SIXTY LES here in New York was a perfect fit. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a beautiful, friendly, and accommodating location for a rooftop proposal. – Ash Fox Proposal Photographer

Newly engaged couple kissing; beautiful outdoors marriage proposal photography by ASH FOX Photography and Video This proposal ranks as one of the most original and romantic proposals I’ve shot! Chris knew that his girlfriend loved castles and fairytales and created a real life fairytale for Nicole. He just blew her away with this epic proposal, complete with a violinist playing their song Elvis’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” softly in the background.  I had an amazing time shooting this proposal for them. Here’s Chris’s testimonial : “I hired Ash to capture a very special moment – my proposal to my girlfriend (she said yes!). Ash was a total pro and extremely easy to work with – she helped me plan out the best way to get her involved unbeknownst to my girlfriend, and captured every moment of the proposal. Our friends and family are obsessed with the photos – thanks for everything”! – Chris M marriage proposal photography, perfect proposal, Hire/Book a NYC Photographer, Hire/Book a NY Photographer, Proposal Photographer, Marriage Proposal Photographer, Marriage Proposal, Hire a NYC Photographer, Hire/Book a NYC Photographer, NYC Proposal Photographer, Manhattan Proposal Photographer, Brooklyn Proposal Photographer, Hire a Photographer, Hire a Proposal Photographer, Wedding Engagement Photographer, Central Park Proposal, Central Park Boathouse Proposal, Central Park Proposal Photographer, Rockefeller Center Skating Rink Proposal Photographer, Rockefeller Center Skating Rink Proposal Photography, Proposing to girlfriend NYC, Proposing to girlfriend Brooklyn, Proposing to girlfriend Manhattan, Propose to girlfriend NYC, Propose to girlfriend New York City, Propose to girlfriend Manhattan, Propose to girlfriend Brooklyn, Proposal Central Park, Photograph engagement, Photographer for Engagement, Photographer for Proposal NYC, Photographer for Proposal NY, Photographer for Proposal New York City, Photographer for Engagement Manhattan, Photographer for Engagement Brooklynpost proposal kiss in front of castle in new jerseyembracing in the sunlight of a cstle proposalcastle proposal kneeling ring photography

Girl about to be proposed to as she walks with her boyfriend along the DUMBO waterfront

I love photographing couples in front of the incredible NYC skyline. When JD got in touch with me to photograph his proposal to his girlfriend Anna we combined forces and brainstormed an awesome proposal along the waterside in DUMBO including a ferry ride, in which I discreetly photographed them (sneaky sneaky)! I always love when guys add special personal touches to their proposal. JD created a beautiful photo book of his and Anna’s journey as a couple together. He also picked out such a beautiful and unique canary yellow ring! I’m a big fan of yellow if you couldn’t tell. Anna was completely shocked and so thrilled! This summertime proposal was so romantic, I was “kvelling” (as the say in Yiddish–to be so overwhelmed with emotion). She of course said yes!
