A proposal can be a very nerve-wracking experience, especially if you are trying to make it an extra-special occasion for you and your soon-to-be fiancée. I was in a similar situation recently when proposing to my now fiancée. While confident that she would say yes as this is something we both want, being able to pull it off in the perfect way with meaning and thought behind it was something that I was very concerned about. For my particular proposal, we went through several ideas until settling on the Astor Chinese Garden Court in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. My girlfriend is from Shanghai and I wanted to incorporate an element of Chinese culture and history into the proposal. Ash helped me to settle on this idea and did a great job of acting as a bystander when being asked by my fiancée to take our picture in the garden.
Throughout everything, Ash was very easy to work with and did a good job of communicating effectively. We even ran into a little snag at the Met when she was not allowed to check the bottle of champagne that I ordered, but Ash was resourceful and we were able to enjoy it outside of the museum when we were done taking pictures inside. Ash also made our pictures available to us well ahead of the projected time, which is a further testament to her commitment to quality work and customer service.

I utilized Ash’s services last June (2014) when I proposed and I have neglected to write a review, we just hit the 1 year anniversary of the proposal and I remembered that I needed to write a review. My Fiance, Laura, is a huge fan of the movie You’ve Got Mail. I took her all around the city at the various film locations until finally reaching the destination where Tom Hanks’ character reveals he is NY152 to Meg Ryan’s character. I don’t believe our photos are on her website but I can assure you that they are wonderful and we get compliments on them all the time. Did I mention that Ash was super helpful with helping me plan everything out? She was in constant contact with me and was in the exact right location and gave me all of the necessary instructions so that the pictures would turn out perfect (listen to her when she says to stay down on your knee as long as possible!!!! We got so many great shots). Ash then set us up in various locations to ensure that we got great pictures, which we did. I would absolutely recommend using Ash. I did an extensive amount of research before choosing Ash and I am extremely glad that I did.
When it came to my proposal, I knew I wanted a photographer, the question was just, who? After looking at about 4 different photographer’s portfolios, there was no question that Ash Fox was the ONE. The quality of the pictures in her portfolio are the best you will find in the area.
We spoke on the phone to brainstorm location and ideas and she couldn’t have been more professional. During the day of the surprise proposal, she followed us from the ferry (Manhattan) to Dumbo/Brooklyn and took amazing surprise, in-action shots and the proposal, while my fiancé had no idea. This review is long overdue. I used Ash Fox Photography last summer (July of 2014) for my surprise engagement pics in Times Square. I live in Florida and I had a very small window to plan a once in a lifetime experience for my girlfriend (now wife). I did a lot of research and I was looking for the best of the best. After reading several reviews, looking at sample portfolios and watching one of Ash’s introduction videos, I made a couple phone calls. From the first phone call I was amazed at her professionalism and ability to understand exactly what I wanted.
Ash did more than just take pictures. She created the perfect engagement experience. I live in Florida and had never even been to NYC before this. I told Ash what I was looking to do and some of the various elements I wanted to capture and she steered me to the right locale and helped plan how it would all unfold. I asked for some “iconic New York” pictures and that’s exactly what I got.
I’m not sure I can find the right adjectives to do justice to Ash’s pictures. I can tell you that they are second to none. A friend of mine who does newborn and maternity photography initially told me that she did not want to do photos for my newborn because she had seen my engagement pics and didn’t think she could hold a candle to the type of quality that I was now used to. I’m not sure if I can use other names here…but she compared the quality of Ash’s photos to Meg Bitton.
I am so thankful that I trusted Ash Fox with my engagement. I can’t recommend her enough!
Ash Fox photographed our surprise proposal at the Top of the Rock and was amazing to work with! She went out of her way to help me plan a perfect proposal… from countless emails, phone calls, and texts… she was so easy to work with. She worked with me to make sure the proposal went off without a hitch! Her “acting skills” to keep the proposal a secret were great! After the proposal, Ash took pictures around Rockfeller Center and helped us make it a memorable experience… she really made us feel like models! She even recommended a great restaurant for dinner later that night!
As if all of that wasn’t enough, the pictures blew us away. She got them back to us very quickly (just 3 weeks), and we now have over 250 pictures to remember the proposal with!

This is a few months past due, but I have to take a moment and say, that if you’re wanting photography in the Big Apple, you absolutely must hire Ash Fox photography. There just aren’t the words to describe how great our session was. First it was a surprise proposal, and she worked with me to make it amazing. I’m an East Tennessee country boy, I know my way around the big spots in NYC, but Ashley taught us all about some not so well known, but amazing spots. I could go on for an hour about all the details and how amazing it was and how the final product was simply incomparable. I surprised my girlfriend with a trip to NYC for our engagement last December. Ali had never before been to New York and she fell in love with the vibrant feel of the City. After a few amazing days of romantic dinners, a Broadway Show, Christmas Spectacular, a walking tour of the city and endless shopping, the highlight was proposing to Ali on the ice at the Rockefeller Center beneath the recently lit Rockefeller Christmas Tree. I found Ash via her website a month or so prior to our trip and asked if she could help “capture the moment.” Ash was outstanding. Her pictures were stunning and her efforts to aid me in my planning of the weekend were beyond the call of duty. She is a true professional. She stayed out of view (so as not to ruin my surprise) and took really nice photos of Ali and I just skating around “having a good time” prior to the proposal, which captured the feel of the night. I recently proposed to my long-time girlfriend in New York and I was lucky enough to have Ash there to document the big night for us with her excellent photography! Ash’s pictures were top-notch and my fiancée and I are thrilled with them. What can I say, ash helped me plan and capture one of the most important and nerve racking moments of my life. She was amazing from beginning to end. I had planned a secret trip to NYC for my GF, now fiancé over Christmas . I thought this would be a perfect time to pop the question since it was always a dream of hers to be there during this time. I was looking online for a photographer in New York to capture the moment and I ended up finding ash, but I got so much more than just a photographer. With her help we found the best location that fit our needs. All the way from Calgary Alberta Canada she was by my side the whole way planning this. Originally I wanted to propose at the Rockefeller tree but ash was quick to steer me away when I told her my gf did not like crowds. I’m thankful for her input cause we were able to get a beautiful Christmas tree at the palace hotel with having St Patrick’s cathedral in the background, with the least amount of people around. Her website is a wealth of ideas from what she has done in the past and she’s always finding new locations. Ash talked me through the whole game plan from the best time to show up to the best way to trick the gf into getting into position for the shot. She will even coach you on what to say if you don’t know. The cell phone trick worked perfectly. All I can say is the engagement went perfect from beginning to end. My fiancé didn’t have a clue and ash was able to capture her reactions as they unfolded. The pictures turned out phenomenal. Ash is so talented because I know it’s difficult when it’s dark to get the lights of the Christmas tree and the people in focus together. We couldn’t have been happier on how the pictures turned out. The great thing about ash is you not only capture the moment but you get your engagement photo shoot done right away. People usually do an engagement shoot after the fact but we felt it was nice having it done the same time as the actual engagement. It was perfect. A proposal can be a very nerve-wracking experience, especially if you are trying to make it an extra-special occasion for you and your soon-to-be fiancée. I was in a similar situation recently when proposing to my now fiancée. While confident that she would say yes as this is something we both want, being able to pull it off in the perfect way with meaning and thought behind it was something that I was very concerned about.
